Now sometimes, people mistake turmeric for curry powder, even though curry does contain turmeric, because curry is a combination of spices.   Turmeric is yellow like curry but its taste is very different and can have a slightly peppery and bitter taste, hence don’t put too much in your food, when adding it to cook or adding it when your food is ready.

Tumeric is used mainly in the Middle Eastern and Asian countries, especially the Indian subcontinent.  But thanks to migration, such spices are now sold all over the world.

Turmeric is high in iron, which is good for sicklers; it is also high in vitamins, (E, B6 and C) and contains lots of minerals for example, magnese, copper, calcium, iron, potassium and its got anti-inflammatory content.

I tend to use it as regularly as possible: I’ll add it on to my rice, so it gives it that nice bright yellow color; some friends drink it with milk.  Sometimes I add it to my water and drink.  But when cooking chicken or meat or fish, I’ll definitely add it on.  I have a bottle mix of mainly turmeric, with curry and cumin.

Remember, turmeric is difficult to wash off when it spills, either on clothes or work surfaces, so do be careful as you pour it.

If you have not been using turmeric, its time to buy it at your local supermarket. Or if you have been forgetting to add it to your food and it is there in your pantry, it’s time to use this spice.  On the other hand, if you have never used turmeric, well the time to start using it is NOW.  It’s sold at any market or supermarket near you.
